Classified Ads (http://classifieds.odd.net/)

Ads submitted to the classifieds are manually reviewed each morning, usually before 9AM and then added to the website. Ads which do not pertain to the Greater Lake of the Ozarks region (i.e., national work-from-home Spam ads) will not be posted.

Searching Business Database (http://www.lakesearch.com/search/)

To view all listings in a particular category, select the category and leave the search string blank. If a search string is entered, it will attempt to match the string to any part of the businesses' name - the search does not operate like a normal search engine and does not recognize Boolean operators such as "AND" and will consider multiple words as one long string.

Searching Local Webs (http://www.lakesearch.com/websearch/)

This search engine searches all websites hosted by Ozark Digital Data, including our own Lake of the Ozarks website. The search works most accurately if you enter in ONE WORD or use Boolean operators to combine words, such as "bass AND fishing". Multiple words entered without Boolean operators, such as "bass fishing" will only return documents with that exact phrase.

LakeTalk (http://laketalk.odd.net/)

If you have forgotten your username or password, simply create a new one. We usually delete usernames and passwords once every 6 months.

To view the most recent postings, first select a conference by clicking one of the links on the left. At the bottom of the list their will be links that read "Next" and "Bottom", click the bottom link.

If you wish to have a message deleted, contact sysop@odd.net. Older messages are usually removed monthly and posted messages remains for 3 to 6 months depending on the conference and time of year (LakeTalk is very active in the summer and slow in the winter).

Editing Your Site Using FrontPage

Editing Your Website
There are two options available for editing/uploading your website depending on how you are creating your pages. Most websites are setup to use index.htm or default.htm as the default page for a directory.

Using FrontPage
We no longer support FTP uploading of your FrontPage edited web pages. If you wish to use FrontPage, you must first contact us to enable FrontPage extensions for your website, and we will supply you with a username and password.
• FP2000 click File - Open Web and enter in the full URL for your website, such as http://www.myweb.com then click OK. Enter in your username and password. Click the Folders button on the left. You will now see the hierarchy of you website. To create a new page, simply highlight the folder you wish the page to be in, the Click File, New-->Page. To edit this page, just double-click it to download it from the server. When you are finished editing the page, click File-Save, after the file has been uploaded back to the server, then click File-Close.
• FP98 click File - Open Web, click the More Webs button, enter the full URL for your website and follow the instructions above.

The File-Publish feature of FrontPage is for users that wish to create their website locally on their hard drive then upload it to the server all at once. We do not recommend this method, however if you choose to use it, you must publish your website to http://www.yourweb.com and authenticate using the username/password we supplied for you - you cannot upload your page using FTP.

Editing Your Site with Another Editor

Create the files locally on your hard drive using the editor of your choice. Use an FTP program to upload the files to the server per the instructions you were given at the time we set up your web space. The most common problem seen is that links and embedded images created using other editors to not work correctly after uploading. This is because most editors save the information IN REFERENCE TO your local hard drive such as c:\myweb\images\mypic.jpg instead of www.myweb.com/images.jpg - if you are experiencing this problem you either need to manually edit the files using a program such as notepad before uploading, or use the Publish feature of your web editor. The publish feature will automatically change link and image references as it uploads the file to the server using FTP protocol.
